Mary Catherine and Nyong’s Biltmore Ballrooms Atlanta wedding was incredibly elegant, emotional and wildly fun.

Their day was an authentic celebration of two people who genuinely enjoy each other, and who fiercely love their family and friends.

And the setting couldn’t have fit them better.

Between the historic architecture, massive chandeliers, and the energy inside the ballroom once guests arrived in both American and Nigerian attire, the entire day was overflowing with personality and history.

As a Chattanooga-based wedding photographer, weddings like this are always such a reminder of why I love documenting celebrations.  From sharing private vows before the ceremony to dancing in traditional Nigerian attire under the chandeliers inside the Atlanta Biltmore Ballrooms, every part of the day felt like a reflection of who these two are together.

Inside The Biltmore Ballrooms Atlanta Wedding Venue

Located inside the historic Biltmore Hotel in Midtown, this venue space has huge Palladian windows, ornate architectural details, dramatic chandeliers, and an old Atlanta feel. But part of what makes The Biltmore Ballrooms in Atlanta feel so iconic is the history behind it.

The Atlanta Biltmore originally opened in 1924 during the height of the grand hotel era in America. Designed by the New York architectural firm Schultze and Weaver, the hotel was created to bring a level of luxury and sophistication to Atlanta that rivaled major cities across the country.

William Candler, son of Coca-Cola founder Asa Candler, helped finance the project alongside developers from the well-known Biltmore hotel chain.

At the time, the six million dollar property quickly became one of the most talked about destinations in the South. The opening celebration was so elaborate that a train was chartered from New York City to bring guests to Atlanta for the festivities.

The Evolution of the Biltmore Ballroom in Atlanta, GA

Over the years, the Biltmore Hotel Atlanta ballroom hosted gala events, tea dances, debutante balls, and performances by visiting Metropolitan Opera stars. Celebrities including Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Bette Davis, and Charles Lindbergh all spent time at the property during its peak years.

After changing ownership several times throughout the second half of the century, the property eventually underwent a major restoration in the late 1990s through The Novare Group. Today, the building remains on the National Register of Historic Places and continues serving as one of the most recognizable wedding venues in the city.

      Their Love Story

Mary Catherine and Nyong matched on Hinge during lockdown in Atlanta back in 2020.

After spending a couple months talking on the phone and texting before finally meeting in person, they had their first date at Freedom Park with canned margaritas. They ended up talking together for five hours straight. Between the long conversation and a Popeyes stop afterward, they realized there was something real about this connection.

Nyong proposed while they were on a trip to Isle of Palms near their four year anniversary. Mary Catherine thought the trip was simply an anniversary getaway, so she didn’t suspect anything at all.

Before dinner one evening, he suggested opening a bottle of wine on the porch overlooking the ocean. As she turned to head inside for their reservation, he called her name and got down on one knee.

She later said she mostly just repeated “Oh my God” several times because she was so shocked.

      Getting Ready in Midtown Atlanta

Their wedding morning started at the Epicurean Hotel in Midtown Atlanta where both sides of the wedding party got ready with friends and family nearby.

After getting dressed, the couple shared a first look on the terrace at the hotel before reading private vows together.

Then everyone headed over to the Biltmore Ballroom in Atlanta GA for portraits and the ceremony.

An American and Nigerian Fusion Wedding at The Biltmore Ballrooms Atlanta

One of my favorite parts of the day was how seamlessly these two blended both American and Nigerian traditions throughout the wedding.

Guests arrived in everything from semi-formal attire to colorful Nigerian outfits that brought so much life and movement into the ballroom. The ceremony was emotional and elegant. But once the reception started, the energy completely shifted into sheer joyful celebration.

Dinner included both American and Nigerian food, which guests were very excited about. And once the dancing party started, it did not slow down.

The Reception at Biltmore Ballroom Atlanta

The reception inside the Biltmore Ballroom Atlanta felt like one continuous celebration from beginning to end.

One of the most memorable parts of the night was the groom’s family dance into the ballroom surrounded by friends and family. It immediately shifted the atmosphere from an elegant dinner party into full celebration mode. The dance floor stayed packed all night.

Later in the evening, Mary Catherine and Nyong changed into traditional Nigerian outfits for more photos and dancing. The colors, fabrics, and movement contrasted beautifully against the historic ballroom interiors.

Ending the Night at The Biltmore Ballrooms Atlanta

The night ended with a send off outside the venue where guests held handmade African fabric fans while the couple exited toward a vintage 1968 Chevrolet Camaro waiting nearby. It was such a joy-filled way to end the night.

If you’re planning your own Biltmore Ballrooms Atlanta wedding, this venue really does give you the chance to create a day that feels elevated without losing your personality. Between the history of the space, the Midtown location, and the convenience of nearby hotels near Biltmore Ballrooms Atlanta, it’s easy to see why so many couples love it.

More than anything, this wedding felt authentic to who these two are as a couple, and that’s what made the entire day one for the books.

Planning Your Own Biltmore Ballrooms Atlanta Wedding?

I love documenting weddings that feel personal, emotional, and true to the couple at the center of it all. The nerves before the ceremony, the deep breath after the vows, and the moments on the dance floor when everyone finally lets loose. These are the moments I live for.

Whether you’re planning a celebration inside The Biltmore Ballrooms Atlanta or somewhere completely different, I want your photos to feel authentic to your day and the people who shared it with you.

If you’re looking for a photographer who values real moments just as much as beautiful images, I’d love to connect. And for what it’s worth, I make a pretty great third wheel.
