OK, right outta the gate I’ve got to say how Emily Kaye designs the most incredible florals. I’ve written more below, but I had to tell you that her work on Hannah and Julien’s wedding leaves me speechless! Be sure to notice the bouquets and the floral installation over the “altar” area while you scroll through!
Hannah and Julian are simply stunning and SO in love. You may remember them from their Southside Chattanooga engagement shoot. We had a ton of fun at that shoot, and so I wasn’t surprised in the least by the level of energy they had on their wedding day. For having a fairly traditional wedding, they themselves are pretty laid back and go-with-the-flow. Super cute and fun people.
I started out photographing Hannah and the ladies getting ready at a friend’s house in the Black Creek neighborhood. Both Hannah’s mom and mother-in-law helped her get into her dress, which was so special to see.
It was pouring rain, so we did bridesmaids photos on the front porch of the house. This worked perfectly because the lighting and contrast on the porch were awesome. I loved the ladies’ mismatched white rompers and jumpsuits and their red pumps. What a BOLD statement! So gorgeous.
One of my favorite moments was when the ladies suited up to head to Lookout Mountain Club. You’ll see the photo of a few bridesmaids wearing their bathrobes over their rompers and plastic grocery bags to protect their hair from the rain. I absolutely love capturing moments like that.
ONE OF A KIND, WHIMSICAL FLORAL DESIGN BY EMILY KAYE
So I’m about to tell you more about Emily Kaye Designs, and I am so excited for you to see her work. She created these loose, whimsical, bright florals for Hannah and the bridal party. Very organic, natural lines of the plant showing through the bouquets. And the boutonnieres are truly exquisite.
I can’t begin to tell you how inspired I am every time I look at the floral pieces Emily Kaye Designs created for this wedding.
EMILY KAYE DESIGNS CREATES WORLD-CLASS FLORAL INSTALLATIONS
Every couple puts so much attention and effort into planning their wedding day, and Emily matches that energy for the people she works with.
Emily Phillips is the owner and genius designer behind Emily Kaye Floral Atelier, based on Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga. Emily’s creative life circles heavily around the idea of “place,” intentional design, and natural beauty. She moved to Paris to study art and eventually found her way to Singapore where she discovered floristry while working for a fine art gallery. She realized floral design was a perfect marriage between her love of painting and 3D art.
Emily Kaye designs florals to bring texture and color to each wedding. She knows that flowers cultivate a beautiful atmosphere and works with her clients “to create original floral designs that express the desired ambiance and flatter the unique nuances of the location.”
She is quoted on her site saying, “When you view your reception for the first time, I want you to be overwhelmed–not with the flowers themselves, but with the unworldly beauty of the atmosphere they help to create.”
I’ve seen her accomplish this many times. Her floral arrangements and installations are consistently jaw-dropping. You’re about to see what I mean.
Emily Kaye offers full-service floral design including floral arrangements, installations, bouquets, and other floral details. She specializes in designing for smaller weddings and intimate events with fewer than 150 guests. Additionally, she limits the number of weddings she and her team take on every year. Both of these factors allow her to commit to the high level of detail and personalization as well as the level of service and attention each couple deserves.
Wow, right?! *Snaps* for these bouquets.
THE ENTOURAGE WEDDING PARTY
Afterward bridesmaid photos we headed to the Lookout Mountain Club for the wedding! Meanwhile, the guys had been getting fancy at Lookout Mountain Club, and they looked so dapper in their classic black tuxedos and bowties. Julien’s brother wore his dress military uniform.
Can I just say how much I love these big wedding parties? Wowza. I love Julien’s entourage as much as Hannah’s! It’s so cool to see the love and support from a wide friend group. Julien’s family is from New York City, so they traveled quite a long way for this event, too.
EMILY KAYE DESIGNS SURPRISE ALTAR INSTALLATION
Y’all know how much I love Lookout Mountain Club. It’s such a beautiful setting for a Chattanooga/North Georgia event. This couple held both their wedding and reception in the Grand Ballroom, which is so perfect with the high peaked ceiling, wood trim and giant stone fireplace, and walls of windows.
You’ll notice the installation at the backdrop of the ceremony space–the greens climbing up the wall and the floral streamers in the window. Just…WOW. Emily actually created this altar arrangement as a surprise to Hannah and Julien! Hannah’s first view of that altar installation was as she was coming down the aisle.
Like I said at the beginning, Hannah and Julien planned a fairly traditional wedding. One tradition they maintained: not seeing each other ahead of the ceremony. When Julien saw her coming down the aisle–OMG my heart! He lost it and couldn’t contain his tears when he saw Hannah. I can’t blame him…she looked like a total goddess! But that moment was really sweet.
BRIDE AND GROOM PORTRAITS ON LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN BLUFF
It had rained throughout the day, so we kept the wedding party shots to the blacktop path. But I took Julien and Hannah off-road to the bluff for their bride and groom portraits.
Hannah and Julien have amazing chemistry. Like from the beginning, they’ve had great chemistry. Hannah had shared with me that on their first date they static shocked each other any time they touched. THAT sort of chemistry. And these bride and groom portraits are dripping with their energy together.
Hannah was barefoot by this point, and her dress was wrinkled, and they’d been rained on. But it didn’t take away from these portraits one bit…maybe it even added to them. They were so giddy and had such childlike enthusiasm for this session. We had a blast playing with these under the veil shots and running through the grass. I can’t say enough about couples who SHOW UP like this and share their love and energy for me!
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN CLUB GRAND BALLROOM RECEPTION
While Julien and Hannah were taking photos with me on the bluff, their guests were enjoying the open bar inside. After we made our way back to the Grand Ballroom, I was grabbing a quick bite before reception festivities really got underway.
Y’all, I was eating when I started hearing cheering from the crowd. I turned just in time to see Hannah and Julien being carried in on their friends’ shoulders! That was so wild! I hadn’t been expecting this at all, but I’m so glad I was able to grab my camera and quickly capture these photos.
Instead of one long buffet table, they had several stations with different types of food set up in the corners of the room. This was such a fun twist on a typical buffet setup. They also had a cookie/donut table for dessert instead of serving a traditional wedding cake.
Once dinner was over, Hannah and Julien opened up the dance floor. They are truly so precious together. And I can’t even tell you how sweaty this dance floor got. Absolutely no one was holding back! The energy was through the roof, just the way I like it!
Such a stellar crew of folks came together to make this a memorable wedding for Hannah and Julien and all their guests. For more on the venue and vendors, please check out their sites.
